8. Air fares from Hong Kong to the UK by the approved route for the Governor, his wife and dependent children will be met from HMG funds. (See paragraph 1.) British carriers should be used whenever
possible.
9. Management and Personnel Office have laid down firm rules for meeting the cost of travel to the UK. Governors who plan to diverge from the approved route should seek confirmation from Personnel Services Department well in advance of their departure dates, that the cost of their journeys can be met from public funds.
10. A Governor travelling by an Optional Route is not covered by
the injury benefit provisions. Governors are advised to consider
insuring themselves and their families privately. But no
contributions can be made from public funds towards the cost.
BAGGAGE AND INCIDENTALS

Baggage, transit insurance and incidental expenditure as
out in paragraphs 2 and 3 will be met by HMG.

The M & S appointed agent in Hong Kong should be used to pack and ship personal effects. Further details may be obtained from Freight Unit, Personnel Services Department.
13. The free baggage allowance granted by the railway or air company will not be set against a Governor's overall baggage entitlement except that when a journey is made by more than one means of transport, the fact that a proportion of the baggage has been moved free on one leg does not mean that the gross entitlement can be exceeded to another leg which has a smaller free allowance.
