ADMINISTRATOR, ASCENSION ISLAND

The Administrator represents the Governor of St Helena
as his senior officer on the Island, maintaining his
interests with the representatives of the BBC, Cable and
Wireless and Composite Signals Organisation, who are the
British users of the Island, and with the US Air Force
Base and the National Aeronautical and Space Administration
(NASA) Station.
He
The Administrator is ex-officio magistrate, and is
responsible for law and order. The Administrator's staff
provides the services of a Government Cashier, issue
currency, run the Savings Bank and the Post Office.
is responsible for advising the Governor of St Helena
in whom resides the power to make laws for Ascension,
on legislation that may be required.
Present Administrator is Ian George Thow, a Diplomatic
Service officer. He took up his appointment in August
this year and is accompanied by his wife Vivien Mary and
a four year old son.
Born in 1924, Mr Thow served in the Royal Navy (1942
on secondment to the Government of British Honduras
