During the very enjoyable lunch you gave me last Thursday, you waid you had been in touch with beter williams. You asked what I an after,
I would like, and have wanted since 1973, a letter/
statement made by some responsible member of the Eong kong Government, and published in a leading U.K. newspaper/s e.g. The Daily Telegraph, The Guardian, to the effect that the corruption scandals which began in liong Kong in 1973 arose because the Folice - of their own volition and initiative -
commenced and brought to a successful conclusion an investigation against ex-Supt. liunt and were entirely responsible for disclosin the extent of Godber's ill-gotten gains.
A statement something like this would be adequate.
I mentioned in brief that in my seven years since I left Hong kong I have been insulted by a Dental Surgeon, & Life Peer, two County Deputy Lieutenants, a number of members of the staff of the Ministry of Defence and a host of private individuals; not to mention industrialists whom I meet in the course of my work.
In conversation with people I huve not previously net I never volunteer the fact that I served twenty-five years with the R..K.P. but sooner or later I am put in a position whereby I have to mention it. Your imagination will not be too stratched to envisage the robust defence of the R.K.K.P. which I articulate. These circumstances would not arise is a short letter/statement were published in the U.K. pross. I strongly advocate the trust being told in a letter/ statement along the lines I have suggested.
If this cannot be arranged, then perhaps icter Williams could be asked to send me an official letter, the contents of which I could quote in letters to the media.
