Chronology of Time Estimates for Completion
of MacLennan Inquity
1. Original estimate for total length of sittings: 60 days (so» (127)
in ACC 2/650/80C; and (33) in FJW 26/3/12).

11th August, 1980: hearings begin, In first 10 days the evidence
of 26 witnesses in taken (many witnesses evidence is taken by treating
their statements as if they had been read into the record),
22nd August, 1980; hearings adjourn, Counsel to Commission, Helligan
Q.C., obliged by ill health to withdraw.

On or about the 20th August, 1980: the Commissioner tells H that
the hearings should take about 6 weeks from the zesumption of sittings
on the 10th September, 1980 (see (93) in AGC 2/550/800),
4. Beveridge, Q.C. instructed as replacement counsel to the Commission,
Resumption date set back to 29th October, 1980. Inquiry to begin
"de novo" instead of resuming from whers left off. Beveridge issues
list of witnesses (64) several of whom have given evidence at earlier
hearings. Beveridge indicates scope of inquiry has broadened considerably, X
5. On or about the 28th October, 1980: Commissioner indicates hopes to
complete hearings by Christmas, 1980 (see (127) in AGC 2/650/800),
6. On or about the 7th November, 1980: Miss Trench of S.C.S, told
Commissioner estimates conclusion of hearings "around the end of
