I happen to know that MacLennan wanted the 1978 affair to be heard
in the open court. I mentioned this fact in my letter to His Excellency the
Governor in November, 1978. There was therefore no motive for suicide.
Another disquieting fact is that in an interview arranged with me
by Mr. Moorfoot a few days before the inquest, Mr. Moorfoot explained the five
shots by saying that two were near the heart, and three others trailed right,
across the chest, as MacLennan's hand became weaker. This was completely in
conflict with the evidence given by the police, that there were four shots in the
chest and one on the left above the waist. As the revolver allegedly used to kill MacLennan requires two hands to shoot, surely someone has gone wrong somewhere in
the explanation.
These are only a few of the matters that helped to write a big
question mark over the suicide theory a theory which few people I have met
believe. And of course, without a body, any story can be thought up.
Yours sincerely,
E. Quatt
