state that he knows of no reason at all why the deceased would even contemplate taking his own life. He has heard of the rumour and allegations that the deceased was a homosexual but he did not believe him and he knew of nothing in his character which would substantiate them.
EVENTS ON 14th JANUARY 1980

Iain Grant, Senior Inspector of Police, is the officer in charge of Criminal, Investigation in Homantin. He will state that shortly after joining the Force in 1974 he became acquainted with the deceased and from then on he associated with him socially on a frequent but irregular basis. He will state that since he took over as OC CID HMT the deceased was in charge of an investigation team and responsible to him. Professionally he found the deceased to be a competent and efficient officer who was easily capable of carrying out his
duties. He approached his work in a well organised and methodical manner and his standard of work was more than satisfactory.

He will further state that prior to his death the deceased submitted an unreasonably high number of outstanding case files. These files had been prepared during the preceding week. He will state that on reflection it may be that he was clearing up his case load prior to his death.

The last time he had contact with the deceased was on the morning of 14th January when he telephoned him at his home and instructed him to see the Divisional Superintendent of Kowloon City that morning. He did not, during that conversation or at any other time detect any sign indicating that he was under stress or that any matter was troubling him.

He will state that on 14th January the deceased was due to perform Investigation Team Day Duty between 0800 2000 hours and on 15th January Investigation Team Night Duty from 2000 - 0800 hours. He will state that he had no knowledge of any raid or enquiry which the deceased or his Team intended to carry out on the morning of 15th January.

Mr. LO Chu-hung, Divisional Detective Inspector at Kowloon City will state that he has known the deceased both socially and professionally since 1976 and that he did not appear to have any problems. He will state that he knew the deceased had not drawn a personal revolver from the Force Armourer as he had a drinking habit. He was fairly competent at his job. industrious and willing to take up additional responsibilities..
