The bedroom door was then forced open. Mr. Trotman entered. The room was dark and the drawn. Mr. Trotman switched on the main light, later, Mr. Quinn switched on a bedside lamp. The body of MacLennan was found lying on the floor on the other side of the bed, with a police service revolver near him by his feet. There were bullet holes at the front of his body, four of which were near the region of the heart and the fifth lower down on the left hand side of the body. Mr. Quinn felt the body and it became apparent that life was extinct. The police photographer took a few photographs of the bedroom and the body. Mr. Trotman went to the next flat to use the telephone to call the Duty Controller, DCCC/K, Mr. D.H. Hodson, informing the latter that MacLennan had shot himself and requested the services of the ambulance, the Forensic Pathologist and the Ballistics Officer. Mr. Trotman also informed Mr. J.R. Johnston, the DPC/K.

12.

About 5 to 10 minutes later, Dr. WONG Kin-ming and Dr. YIP Chi-pang, Forensic Pathologists arrived with their assistant, D/Sgt. 5897. Mr. Trotman told the doctors that the police officer (referring to MacLennan) was due to be arrested that morning and that he should have reported to Mr. Quinn of the S.I.U. but had failed to do so. The police party had gone to the flat to look for him but the door was locked. The police had to force entry and had found MacLennan lying in his bedroom with a revolver beside him. Mr. Trotman also said that the officer was connected with a case concerning homosexual activities.

13.

Dr. WONG Kin-ming was led into the bedroom by Mr. Trotman. Dr. WONG asked if the ballistics officers had been called and Mr. Trotman replied that they were on the way. Mr. Trotman also told Dr. WONG that photography had been completed. Dr. WONG, having made an initial examination, formally pronounced death. Mr. Trotman then dismissed the ambulance crew who had by this time arrived. Dr. WONG then carried out a more detailed examination of the body and the injuries. In response to a question, Dr. WONG was of the opinion that the injuries could have been self-inflicted. Shortly after death was certified, Mr. Quinn sought permission from Mr. Trotman and the S.I.U. withdrew from the scene.

14.

Mr. KONG Churk-hoi, S.D.I./K.C., arrived at about the same time as the Forensic Pathologists and he also received a briefing from Mr. Trotman. Mr. Trotman detailed him as the enquiry officer. Mr. KONG then arranged for the attendance of the fingerprint officer and the photographer on the instruction of Mr. Trotman.

15.

The next persons to arrive were the ballistics officers, Mr. A. Cimino and Mr. R.C. Nicoll. After a briefing by Mr. Trotman, these two officers entered the bedroom whilst the Forensic Fathologists were still examining the body.
