I am the Officer in Charge of the Ballistics and Firearms Identification Bureau, Police Headquarters, Arsenal Street. I have the New Zealand Certificate of Science (Chem.) and have been employed as a Ballistics Officer since 1959, in New Zealand and in Hong Kong.
2.
On 15 January 1980, at 1227 hours, I attended the scene of a death in Flat 410B, Homantin Service Flats, 19 Homantin Hill Road.
3.
In the bedroom of the flat, I saw the body of a European Male, lying on the floor, between the bed and the windows. There was a Colt revolver lying on the floor at the feet of the European Male. Some doctors were examining the body and one handed me a bullet he said that he found in the clothing of the body.
4.
After the body had been removed from the flat, I searched the bedroom and found two more fired bullets, one lying in the far tuft right corner of the room, as viewed from the door and the other stuck in the drawer of a dressing table on the far left side of the room. The first bullet appeared to have struck the wall, near andairconditioning switch, before falling to the ground.
5.
Later examination of the revolver showed it to be a Police issue Colt, bearing the issue number RHKP 4894 and the manufacturer's serial number 793895. I found the revolver to be loaded with one live round and five fired cartridge cases of Police issue type. .38 S&W calibre revolver ammunition. The revolver was in good working order and bore traces of firing residue in five chambers. Test-firing of the revolver showed it to have fired the bullet found in the clothing of the deceased and also to have fired the bullet found on the floor. The bullet found in the drawer could not be matched with the revolver, as this bullet was considerably scraped and distorted. The cartridge cases found in the revolver, hade been fired by the exhibit revolver.
6.
On 21 January 1980, at 1113 hours, I received a shirt, a pull- over and two fired bullets from DEPC 6924.
7.
Examination of the pullover and the shirt, showed both to have five bullet entry holes in the front, four in the mid-chest area and the fifth lower down on the left side. Each of these holes appeared to have been made with the muzzle of a weapon in contact with the garments. The back of the shirt had three exit holes, while the back of the pullover had two exit holes.
