Report 750809
decipher
the wording which I have identified as of
as reading 'Inp Maclennan' and below,
common authorship
the initials 'JM'; in the other column, as 'D.I. Maclennan'
and in the 'Returned' column below this, there is a notation, which I have not identified.
The writing has been produced in a confined space and the surname has been produced at about half the natural width used by Inspector Maclennan, with the height reduced proportionately and the name is produced in both instances
as his signature, rather than as a written name.
I do not know whether it is unusual for a person who has just got out of bed and who works shift duty, to confuse 6 o'clock on a watch between morning and evening, even assuming that at that time of the year it is dark at both these times.
It is implied from the evidence that Inspector Maclennan did not normally draw a gun; therefore, again, he may have been unused to signing
to signing the Beat Equipment Register. There are only numbers above the signature. There are probably various reasons for Inspector Maclennan to have signed in the wrong column, so I will not speculate.
OPINIONS OF AUTHORSHIP
