Source Details
Source One was a single 18 year old ethnic Chinese male born at Lang Son, Northern Vietnam. He was a "double-backer", having entered Hong Kong in 1979.
Previous Escape in 1979
2.
(a) In May 1979 he and his elder brother had been passengers on a
sailing junk carrying some 200 persons from Lang Son to Hong Kong. The junk had sustained damage at Qisha (0120/3097), Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and while it was being repaired, Source and his brother left the other passengers to seek their relatives in China.
(b) They did not find any relatives, but when they returned to Qisha
after three weeks, the junk had departed.
(c) Source and his brother then went to Beihai (0554/3189), where in
August 1979 they paid RMB 400 to an organiser named ZHOU Zhiching (0719/1807/3237) for places in a boat which reached Hong Kong on 1st September 1979 (L/M 902). They were repatriated to China in October 1980.
(d) Source was sent to an Overseas Chinese Farm (name not given) in China, which he had falsely reported in Hong Kong to be his previous place of resettlement. Being refused entry by the Farm, he went to Nanning (0589/1380), where he located his cister and lived with her at the District Printing Factory, though there was no work for him. The Indo-Chinese Refugee Office at Nanning offered work on a Farm in Yunnan, which he refused.
The Escape from China
3.
(a) Source One decided to try again to enter Hong Kong, this time from Dawang (1129/2489), which was a well known departure point for Hong Kong.
(b) His sister in Naming was able to obtain a travel permit for him, and he accordingly made his way to Dawang Overseas Chinese Farm. His brother declined to accompany him, as on the last occasion in Hong Kong he had been interviewed by officials at Canton Road Reception Centre, and was afraid of being recognised.
(c) Source One soon made the acquaintance of one of the organisers of a departure group. (who also came to Hong Kong in L/M 1252)
