Vietnamese Refugees Ex-China - LAN 1277
On 10th April 1981 a 10 h.p. wooden fishing boat ("tuyen ghe" type) sized 11 by 2.5 metres: registration nurber DN 0372 QIII entered Hong Kong with 36 passengers, of whom 17 were ethnic Vietnamese from Da Nang in Central Vietnam, and 19 were Vietnamese Chinese from China. This report deals with the latter 19 persons.

Seventeen of this contingent came from Dawang (1129/2489) Overseas Chinese Farm in Sihui County, Guangdong Province, one was a Vietnamese Chinese from Guangming (0342/2494) Overseas Chinese Farm in the same Province, and one passenger was a Chinese illegal immigrant who had been taken aboard en route in order to steer the boat to Macau. This person spoke some Vietnamese and claimed to be of Vietnamese Chinese origin.

The group left their boat in Macau, where the authorities transferred them to a transitting Vietnamese refugee boat which was directed to Hong Kong.

The main Vietnamese Chinese party had left Lubao (5684/5383), Sanshui County on a rowing boat on 23rd March 1981, reached Macau
on 30th March, departing 10th April and reached Hong Kong later the same day.
