Vietnamese Refugees Ex-China L/M 1352,1353.1356
On 15th June 1981 refugee groups L/M 1352,1353,1356 arrived in Hong Kong; L/M 1352 arrived on board a wooden rowing boat of Chinese origin sized 13 m x 2.8 m; L/M 1353 arrived in a wooden motorised fishing vessel of the Thuyen type, sized 12 m x 2.5 m Registration No. NB 3635,. and L/M 1356 arrived on board a wooden motorised river boat of Chinese origin sized 12 m x 3 m.

2. All of these passengers, a total of 241, had left the Dawang area, Guangdong Province during the second week of June 1981. They all made their way to Macau and were subsequently redirected to Hong Kong. the case of LM 1353, the boat on which they arrived was donated by the Macau authorities and the 57 people on board were a combination of three original groups whose small boats were not suitable for the onward journey from Macau to Hong Kong.

All of these passengers were ethnic Chinese who had left Vietnam during the time of orderly departures in 1978 and 1979 and had been resettled in Overseas Chinese farms in Guangxi and Guangdong Provinces. From their places of resettlement all had made their way in small groups to Dawang Farm, where they heard that arrangements for clandestine departures to Macau and Hong Kong were easily arranged. All of the groups were organised by persons at the departure point.
