contrary to the principles of freedom and democracy of the British people. It is also an unwise act, besides seriously violating human rights.
Besides coming to Great Britain, we also plan to go to the United States to appeal to the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the President of the United States, asking them to give close atten- tion to the problem of the Chinese refugees. We wish to tell them
that Chinese refugees are a product of the despotic rule of the Chinese Communists like refugees from other Communist countries. If there were no Communist regimes, there would be no refugee problems Hence if we wish to solve the Chinese refugee problem, all the free countries in the world must impose economic sanctions against the Chinese Communist regime in order to compel the latter to change its cruel and despotic rule and improve the living standard of their people. This is the only effective and fundamental way of resov- ing the problem of the Chinese refugees.
Lastly, we call on all of the free countries in the world to regard the problem of the Chinese refugees as an important question, and ask them to extend their humantarian hands to the Chinese refugees just as they had done so in receiving the Vietnamese refugees, thereby reducing the heavy burden of the refugees on
Hongkong.
