During Commons consideration of Lords amendments to the British Nationality
Bill on 27 October, the Home Secretary undertook to write to Sir Paul Bryan
about points Sir Paul had raised on the future status of British Dependent
Territories' citizens. (Official Report, 27 October 1981, cols. 775 and 783).
A draft letter to Sir Paul is attached. It follows, broadly speaking, the
general pattern of the speaking note provided for the Home Secretary on this
point (my note to you of 27 October refers). The draft has the approval of
FCO officials.
