Thank you for your letter of 27 July (which Peter Carrington saw before his departure on holiday this week)
about the Lords' amendment which would give Gibraltarians a
right to acquire British citizenship. I am replying on
Peter's behalf.

The Government have made clear their opposition to
anything in the Nationality Bill which would discriminate in
favour of Gibraltar. We are now considering the full implications
of the Lords' amendment and our future course of action.
I am very grateful for your views on this.
