Proposed amendment to accord priority of naturali - sation to citizens of British Dependent Territories over aliens and to give special recognition to economic etc. contribution
Add a new paragraph to Schedule 1 to the Bill as follows:

12A.
For the purposes of paragraph 1 and 2 the Secretary
of State shall, on an application for naturalisation as a British
citizen under section 4(1) by a person who is a citizen of the
British Dependent Territories, take into consideration, when
exercising his discretion whether to grant him a certificate of
naturalisation, the constitutional relationship that citizens of the
British Dependent Territories have with the United Kingdom".

"12A.
The Secretary of State shall, when considering
applications for naturalisation as a British citizen under section
4(1), in the case of applications by citizens of the British Dependent
Territories, accord to those applications such priority as he
considers right having regard to the constitutional relationship
that citizens of the British Dependent Territories have with the
United Kingdom and, in the case of any particular applicant,
having regard to any benefit for the United Kingdom or the
relevant territory arising from his conduct or activity".
