Proposed amendment to the British Nationality Bill 1981 to accord priority of naturalisation to British (Dependent Territories) citizens over aliens and to give special recognition to economic etc. contribution
Add a new paragraph to Schedule 1 to the Bill as follows:
"2A. The Secretary of State shall, when considering
applications for naturalisation as a British citizen under
section 4(1), in the case of applications by British (Dependent
Territories) citizens, accord to those applications such
priority as he considers right having regard to the
constitutional relationship that British (Dependent
Territories) citizens have with the United Kingdom and,
in the case of any particular applicant, having regard
to any benefit for the United Kingdom or the relevant
territory arising from his conduct or activity".
