1. In his minute to Mr Clift of 3 June; Mr MacInnes asked for views on the 'political feasibility' of siting a BBC Relay Station in the Philippines.

We would certainly not exclude the Philippines a priori, but it is never easy to predict Philippine reactions and we cannot be entirely confident that the Philippine Government would be amenable. They have however played host to United States military installations since the Second World War and despite a certain degree of sensitivity about the presence of foreign military bases on their soil concluded a new bases' agreement in 1979.

If the Philippines is to be considered as a candidate site,
I suggest we consult the Ambassador in Manila soon.
