A Joint Animal Breeding Centre for the
three institutions has been omitted from these
recommendations. A Working Party comprising re-
presentatives of the institutions has been set up, and experts from overseas have been invited to advise on requirements and health controls.
Projects of this nature are necessarily expen- sive, and do not relate to costs for average academic buildings. This has been borne out by the estimates for the animal holding unit at
Hong Kong University in connection with its me- dical and dental pre-clinical training and research work. It is therefore not possible to hazard even a rough estimate, and a separate recommendation will be made as soon as the Working Party has fina- lised its proposals."

The Working Party produced a report in December 1980 which was considered and endorsed by the Committee's Medical Sub-Committee in January 1981. The proposal calls for a specialist building of 5,400 m2 gross floor area at Victoria Road for the production of laboratory animals for the three institutions. It is estimated to: cost $44.478

The Committee supports the proposal and recommends a grant
of $1.027 million in 1982-83 for site investigation and
