Developments on the HKU main campus have encountered considerable geotechnical problems, with the result that most projects are behind schedule and require extra funds for site development. While the two Science Buildings of Phase IA will be ready in April 1981, the new Engineering Building will not be until early 1982. Phase IB, consisting of two lightly serviced Science Buildings, is scheduled for completion at the end of 1982. The Composite Building, which will house a student hostel and a 2 student day facilities centre in addition to providing 1,885 m2 academic space in respect of which a separate proposal has been made, will be ready in 1984-85.

The main contract for Stage I of the development of the Sandy Bay sports site is expected to start at the end of 1980 for the project to be completed by mid-1982.

The 72 units of senior staff housing agreed for 1978-81, plus the 96 units previously agreed for 1974-78, made up a total of 168 flats to be developed on a site below Victoria Road. 64 flats will be ready in 1981-82, and the remaining
104 flats in 1983-84.
