Student Orientated Teaching
In our discussions the University emphasised to us that the development of their Student Orientated Teaching Programme is proceeding well. We are continuing to watch the situation very carefully. Although not directly associated with student orientated teaching, we have allowed in the recommended grant for improvements in the senior staff ratios.

Enrolment patterns
Paragraph 6.9 of the White Paper issued by Government indicated that by the early 1980's the Polytechnic should plan to accommodate some 12,000 full-time and equivalent part-time students. According to the student mix assumed in that paper this enrolment would consist of approximately 8,000 full-time students, 3,000 on part-time day release, and 18,000 on evening : courses. The White Paper also stated that the Government would provide for the continued expansion of technician and commercial education by transferring some of the present ordinary Diploma : and Certificate work of the Polytechnic to the Technical Institutes, thus allowing the Polytechnic to concentrate a greater proportion of its work at Higher Diploma and Higher Certificate levels.
We are now able to report that Polytechnic enrolment figures for 1980-81 will be close to 11,500 full-time equivalent students, and that the Government target of 12,000 FTEs will be reached early in the new triennium. A figure of 12,056 FTES is projected by the Polytechnic for 1981-82.
