At both Universities it is predicted that the actual enrolment for 1980-81 will exceed the approved target, with HKU allowing for an increased enrolment of students in the School of Law. The Polytechnic also expects marginally to exceed its target, which is a gratifying change compared to the position in 1977, when difficulties in filling part-time day-release courses were being encountered. The current demand for places in these courses is affecting the availability of places in other modes of attendance within the FTE ceiling of 12,000 for the Polytechnic. This is connected with the Polytechnic's enrolment structure, on which separate comment is made below.
