1.
EDUCATION
-
I submit draft answers to two related POs put down by George Cunningham MP (Islington South and Finsbury Labour) for written answer on 13 March. They have been cleared with the Hong Kong Government and CRD.
2. The request for a list of institutions of higher education is straightforward: there are ten. The other question, on whether Hong Kong makes a contribution to HMG's costs on higher education, is less so. The direct answer is no, but to say this without reference to the loan scheme currently being worked out in Hong Kong may cause embarrassment to the Hong Kong Government Office, who have been at pains to assure Hong Kong students in Britain that everything He of possible is being done to assist them in view of their having to pay
full fees. I have therefore added a sentence outlining the form this
SSE
(148) scheme might take.
