WORKLOADS OF STAFF
MENGGAMÁL VELIKA VOJNE NG SAN CREATE
The Baptist College academic staff have contact loads of 13.6 hours per week on average, but the full time staff are required to be on the College campus for 35 hours per week. Demonstrators work from 12-16 hours per week. Since they are not expected to have other employment this allows them opportunity for further study. Most demonstrators are recent graduates without practical or teaching expertise.
The staff in the department teach all components of their courses including the science and mathematics but with the exception of computing. A substantial proportion of the teaching on the course is carried out by part-time staff who are generally non-academic staff with very good professional experience.
13.3 In seeking a comparison with the Polytechnic members
gained the impression that the Polytechnic staff contact hours were higher. The formal Polytechnic record of staff work loads gives an average weekly load of 14 hours per week, but the actual scheduled contact hours claimed by the staff are 17-18 hours per week with Assistant Lecturers teaching substantially in excess of this figure. The discrepancy may simply be due to various staff activities not being notified to the Polytechnic central record but members were not able to establish this. The department aspires to weekly scheduled contact hours of:
PL 10 hours

L/AL 16 hours
