In addition software, including operating systems, languages, applications and graphics packages, is required that will be sufficient to support teaching and applications within both the technical and business environments.
The system must be capable of being readily enhanced to meet the increased needs of future years. Since the institution does not have a great deal of experience in the computing field it is essential that the system must be already developed and proven.
Staff of the College in collaboration with specialist advisers need to produce a detailed specification of requirements with system details, including the core and backing store, output facilities, graphics capability, terminals and software needs. Details of staffing, accommodation and financial support for the above also need to be drawn up.
In the short term, local institutions may be able to provide a limited service for the college. For logistic and financial reasons it is difficult to envisage anything in excess of advice and a simple card batch service being provided.
