would complement rather than duplicate other provisions in Hong Kong. At present the programme objectives are constrained to fit as much as possible the available resources and staff strengths. It is not for the visiting party to offer guidance on the selection of any alternative objectives, but if such decisions were made, members could individually offer advice on how the different objectives could be achieved.
The visiting party has been asked by HKG to go beyond its original remit and to comment on UK comparisons. The best comparison of intended level are with the UK DipHE in the case of the Senior Diploma and the UK non-honours Degree in the case of the fifth year.
Besides resources, the Baptist College needs more developed policies and practices in order to provide the institutional support for the programmes.
These matters are dealt with at greater length in the institutional assessment, the report on which should be read alongside this one. The major requirement in these respects are summarised in the main report.
The main report also comments on the timescales for the attainment of similarity of level with the Polytechnic comparators and for going beyond this to realise the full potential of the Baptist College in science and mathematics.
The visiting party has no doubt that money spent on enhancing the resources of the Baptist College in the science and mathematics subjects would be a good investment in Hong Kong's higher education.
