There has been a reasonable number of publications (via work conducted elsewhere), but the publication record is unevenly distributed. Virtually no in-house research is being undertaken. Staff secondments to USA are mainly for research, and there is no attempt to relate to HK Industry or to retrain in certain areas of growing importance. There is very little consultancy work. The approach is recognised by the Head of Department and staff, as too insular and hampered by (i) relatively ineffective use of staff time, (ii) lack of technical support staff, (iii) lack of a coherent college policy. The staff have no industrial experience.

HKBC Comment

The total reliance on demonstrators (and staff) is quite unsatisfactory, and permanent qualified technical staff appointments are considered essential.

Clerical/Administrative support is not adequate.
