regrettable that there is no form of external moderation of the quality of the output from the programme, furthermore that there is no internal assessment by faculty of all of the examination papers before they are finally approved.
Employment: Factual
Of the 66 diplomates over the period 1976-79, 50% went into teaching, 9% went abroad to further their studies, 16% entered the Civil Service, 4.5% went to pharmaceutical industry and 20% entered biological employment.
Diplomates are not accepted into postgraduate studies at either of the Chinese or Hong Kong Universities.
Comment
Although 50% go into teaching, many do so as a second choice. This may be taken as an indication of the limitations that a programme with this content imposes upon diplomates. That the diplomates are not accepted as suitably qualified entrants to higher level work in the Colony is suprising especially since they appear to achieve higher degree awards both in the USA and the UK.
Non-Completion Rates: Factual
Failure rate varied but the high withdrawal rate experienced elsewhere in the College was not experienced. There was some transfer, around 10% to other programmes both in the Colony and abroad.
Comment
Low failure rates and drop out rates reflect the rather intense motivation found amongst the students. Drop-out and failure rates were higher than within the Polytechnic.
Educational Experience
HKP Factual
Teaching within the part of a course which was seen took place through the medium of lecture, laboratory and tutorials. Class sizes were larger than in HKBC.
