INTRODUCTION

The programmes in the Science area at the Baptist College are clearly distinct treatments of four subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics.

The Working Party met in London on 14 October 1980 to consider the information on these four areas and also general information about the College. Although the Working Party lacked important information about the appropriate Hong Kong Polytechnic programmes, it was agreed to make a visit and beforehand to request further details from the College. The intention had been that the College would receive the report of that meeting in order to assist it in preparing for the visit. However, the College simply received from HKG the specific requests for information and this was supplied in December 1980 as a "Supplement to the Course Submission of July 1980". Members also received on arrival at the College a general statement about it from the President, Dr Daniel Tse, the Faculty and Staff Handbook 1981, the Hong Kong Baptist College 1980-82 Catalogue, the President's Report 1979-80, and certain further subject specific data.

Although no biologists were able to come to the 14 October 1980 meeting, their views obtained through correspondence concurred on the need to visit, on the low staffing levels, and on the impressions given by the rather dated syllabuses received.
