discussed and developed, e.g. staff seminars. Progressively, Baptist College itself must, of course, make its own contribution at a level which attracts academics from outside into the College and leads to mutual respect for the academic and professional standing of staff in the several institutions. Staff development opportunities have been severely curtailed because of lack of funds; this needs correction, and the needs of junior staff who are generally in greater need of staff development must be borne in mind in the allocation of whatever funds are available.

The Comparisons in each Main Field of Study

(a) The report of the Business Studies Group

develops in the particular context of Business the extent to which the attainment of comparability is influenced by resource constraints and other factors. In spite of the many problems, there is a measure of confidence for the future and the report summarises the position as follows:-

"The general conclusion which Members came to was that in the Department of Secretarial

Management and Economics, although there are particular comments that they have made on the Diploma courses offered, they have no doubt that the courses are comparable in level to courses offered in the Hong Kong Polytechnic."

(Appendix C, Section 9(b))

(The relevant section goes on to qualify and amplify this statement and to draw wider conclusions in regard to the problems facing these departments)

and in regard to Accounting

"Members were not able to accept the Diploma courses in Accounting and Business Management as being of comparable standard to those in the Polytechnic. This was very largely because they were over-ambitious given the lack of staff in those areas".

(Appendix C, Section 9 (c))
