TELELETTER MR DAVIES, HONG KONG TO MR CLIFT, FCO,
DATED 9/12/81
117
Once the refugees on the British ships "Willine Toyo", "Euplecta" and "Benavon" were accepted on the quota from Kong Kong, JCRV treated them in exactly the same way as other refugees on the quota, ie, calling forward from the list, in order, according to the size of rooms available at the reception centres. We were not aware that any concept of a 3 month time limit attached to them. We can certainly concentrate on getting them in first if that is what Hong Kong and FCO want. Depending on number and size of rooms available at reception centres we should be able to clear the "Willine Toyo" and "Euplecta" by mid January. It is in any case now our intention to increase reception centre capacity and clear the quota by the end of March at the latest.
Yours sincerely
Nicholson
