Amendment of section 53.

Section 53(8) of the principal Ordinance is
amended by inserting after this section the following
.18
to a warrant of detention issued under
section 13A(6) or".
Explanatory Memorandum
The purpose of this Bill is to make provision
for the better control of Vietnamese refugees during
the period of their stay in Hong Kong.

Clause 2 contains consequential amendments
arising from the provisions in the Bill.
3.
Clause 3 introduces a new Part. IIIA, containing
3 new sections 13A, 13B and 13C, in the principal
Ordinance. New section 13A empowers any member of
the Immigration Service of or above the rank of
assistant immigration officer to permit Vietnamese
refugees to remain in Hong Kong and to impose any
of the conditions of stay specified in the section.
