FAMILY REUNION CRITERIA
1. My minute of 8 July (folio 65), Angel's letter of 8 June (folio 55) and my letter to Angel of 10 June (folio 57). further with Mrs Yu in Hong Kong Government Office.
I have discussed Her main concern
is the fact that the Home Office have called a halt to recruitment by the Hong Kong Immigration Department after the selection of 230 refugees. This leaves 270 outstanding according to Hong Kong's calculations. Their main worry is that boat rescues will be counted against the Hong Kong quota and that the 270 may not be taken up, but they are also concerned to move quickly because of the rundown in the resettlement camps in the UK.
2.
I said to Mrs Yu that we would speak to the Home Office on this simply as a follow-up to my letter of 10 June. Could you please use this as a peg on which to hang a general enquiry about the situation. Bearing in mind the political difficulties about boat rescues, you will need to do this rather discreetly but you should be able to get a picture of how their minds are working.
