that you should press for the inclusion in the loan agreement of a non-availability clause which would limit ECGD's obligation to provide HK in the event of a disaster situation, and allow you to substitute some other suitable currency.
We recognise that despite the compromise proposed we are open to pressure from MTRC for the HK financing of the remainder of the contracts. There can be no commitment to this. We shall be exploring further with your Export Financing Division and the Bank of England our earlier suggestion that, in order to protect your position, a currency option clause might be inserted in loan agreements where exotic currencies are concerned.

Finally, we should like a report from ECGD on the financial strength of Metro-Cammell. No doubt this is readily available to enable you to make your underwriting judgement on the Company.
