He will be in Hong Kong with Michael Wan, proprietor of the Mandarin Restaurant, in Clifton Street, and I have also arranged for Barry Choi, of the South China Morning Post, to make some introductions.
On the business side, Owen plans to look at things generally for future reference, but he also has two specific projects in mind. One relates to a film company which we recently set up in Lancashire with a view to providing programmes for the fourth channel, and possibly at a later stage for the established TV networks. Owen hopes to investigate in principle the prospects for marketing English-language Chinese films in this country.
The second project relates to his estate agency which, as I am sure you know, is the largest in the North-West with a turnover in properties in excess of £50 million per annum. One restraining factor on the development of his business has always been the availability of mortgage funds, which in turn has made it that much more difficult for many young couples, in particular, to own their own home.

Owen would like to operate/scheme with a bank or other financial institution to provide mortgages, with the property obviously being security. He wonders whether any of the Hong Kong institutions would be able to join in such a scheme and at sufficiently competitive rates.
