investigation and planning, and then a further two years to build the bridge itself. One of the factors determining the design and height of the bridge would of course be the size of ships continuing to use the Shenzhen river.

Mirs Bay tourist resorts

11. Mr Huang pointed out on the map the proposed tourist resorts around Mirs Bay. He said that it was in the interests of all concerned that the movement of people to and from the resorts from Hong Kong should be under strict control. He suggested that the resorts were naturally secure in that they could be approached by only one road (from Sha Tau Kok) and were bounded by mountains to the North. Dr Wilson and Mr Akers-Jones said that it would be most sensible to operate ferry services between Hong Kong and the resorts rather than driving by road through. Sha Tau Kok. However, it was possible that the Hong Kong authorities might be able to make some arrangements for construction traffic to the resorts to use a crossing point at Sha Tau Kok. The order of priorities of road border movements at present were firstly to improve facilities at Man Kam To, secondly to pursue the possibility of constructing a new bridge at Lok Ma Chau and only at a much later date to consider significant traffic movement through Sha Tau Kok.

Future visits

12.

In conclusion Dr Wilson and Mr Akers-Jones invited Mr Huang and Mr Liu to visit Hong Kong in the near future in order to inspect the new facilities which were being provided at Man Kam To.
