According to a spokesman of the Hua Jay Joint Venture Co., Hong Kong manufacturers are showing a keen interest in leasing industrial floor-space in the Special Industrial Zone at Shekou. Hua Jay is a joint venture between China Merchants Steam Navigation Co. and the US-based Jay Ease Construction Co. which plans to invest some HK$80-100 million in building eight blocks of industrial buildings, primarily for light industry. According to the spokesman, leases on the first two blocks (with a total floor-area of 320,000 sq.ft.)

have been sold within two months.

Guangzhou office of the Banque Nationale de Paris

On 16 October the Banque Nationale de Paris became the first foreign bank to open a representative office in Guangzhou. The bank also maintains an office in Peking. (The Hong Kong. and Shanghai Bank maintains a Liaison Office in Guangzhou only during the twice-yearly Trade Fair).

Development of Xiamen Special Economic Zone (SEZ), Fujian Province

A ten-day tour for a party of journalists from Hong Kong and Macau was recently arranged by the Fujian authorities with the clear aim of promoting foreign investment in the Province, especially its SEZ at Xiamen (Amoy).
