A newly formed Hong Kong firm, Honwood Ltd., together with an American motor racing enterprise, have signed an agreement with the Shenzhen authorities for the construction of a grand prix circuit and associated hotel and other tourist buildings, at the Ti Kwong Reservoir 10 miles north-west of Shenzhen. The project will take 3 years to build. The China Merchants Steam Navigation Co. Ltd. (CMSN) have submitted a provisional proposal to build a new wharf at an estimated cost of $400 m. at Tai Lam Kok, near Tuen Mun, for use by their coastal freight shipping of up to 20,000 tons. This follows an earlier proposal on much the same lines made by the Guangdong authorities. In principle the Hong Kong Government favours the proposal but will try to ensure that the new wharf is open to shipping from China generally and not confined to vessels from one company or area. Further discussions are to be held.
