A delegation led by the Head of the Guangdong Customs
came to Hong Kong at the invitation of the Director, Trade,
Industry and Customs. The visit concentrated on measures
to control smuggling into China, but closer co-operation between
the two Customs Services generally was also discussed.

For the first time since the Cultural Revolution, an
official Chinese Christian delegation arrived in Hong Kong
for a visit lasting twelve days to take part in an Asian
Christian Council seminar. The delegation was a Protestant
one led by the President of the Chinese Christian Council,
Bishop K. H. Ting, who is also Chairman of the Chinese
Christian Three-Self Patriotic Movement Committee. The Bishop's
statements made clear that these bodies were intent on furthering
Christianity in China in a way which was both restrained and
free from foreign influences.

The Guangdong Produce Quality Control Association, has
written to the Hong Kong Consumer Council proposing exchange
visits and co-operation over consumer affairs. The Association
is interested in setting up its own Consumer Council. This
reflects the increasing importance attached by the Guangdong
authorities (and those in China generally) to quality control
of products, particularly those for export.
