Appeared this extraordinary city,
Calling upon the people in the name of "freedom".
All those who dare to risk their lives
Steal in and swim in,
Constantly kept on the run by money.
A commercial city
And stock markets
Clot on this small island
Like a pool of filthy blood.
The times in which you find yourself,
Your geographical position,
And your foraging and plundering
Have brought you dazzling prosperity.
Double-deck trams,
Buses, big lorries, cars on hire,
Motorcycles that charge ahead,
And patrol cars of the police speeding past with
the long-drawn ululations of sirens
Cause millions of people to live in constant fear
And to breathe in the narrow space between vehicles.
At night, neon signs
Are ablaze with strife and speculation,
Nightclubs and amusement parks
Steam with the smell of flesh,
And their music and dances
Are filled with lust.
