VISIT OF MR JOHN NOTT, DEFENCE SECRETARY, TO HONG KONG

1.

Lord Carrington has agreed in principle (subject to confirmation from posts) that Mr Nott should visit a number of Middle East and Far East countries in September and October. Hong Kong is the last stop on his proposed itinerary (copy enclosed). As you see, the proposal is that he arrive from Jakarta on Sunday, 4 October, departing for London on Wednesday, 7 October.

2.

I apologise for bothering you at present but I know that you will yourself be very busy at that time in the run up to the opening of the Legislative Council. I therefore thought I should consult you as well as Jack Cater in case you had views on the timing.
