The bid by the Hongkong and Shanghai Bank for the Royal
Bank of Scotland was among the topics covered in the brief I
submitted today for this meeting. In paragraph 5 of the
'Points to Make' it is stated that we had reserved the Hong
Kong Government's position to give evidence if necessary.
2. The Monopolies and Mergers Commission have now invited the
Hong Kong Government to give evidence on the bid.
