CALL BY THE GOVERNOR OF HONG KONG ON MR RIDLEY: 22 JUNE 1981 : 32 MR RIDLEY'S VISIT TO THE FAR EAST

1.

It was noted that the Chinese had difficulties over a date before 20 September. A date after that in September could be precluded if Mr Ridley had to attend Belize Independence cele- brations. The Governor said that he would, of course, fit in with Mr Ridley's wishes but from his own point of view the end of September to 7 October would be less convenient because he was preparing for the Opening of the Legislative Council. It was agreed that the dates would have to be re-examined, possi- bilities being mid-October, November or December.

It

2. The outline of a possible programme was discussed. was agreed that it would be useful for Mr Ridley both to see major development on the ground in Hong Kong, to meet senior personalities and also some representatives of the younger generation.
