Dr Needham was concerned that his library on
Chinese technology and science should be
preserved, and was proposing to sell it. Mr
Battersby said he had heard a figure of
£2 million mentioned. While the asking price
had to be clarified, he hoped that Hong Kong
would be interested since it was a most approprise
place for such a library to be established.
He was concerned that it would go to America.
He was disarmingly enthusiastic about Hong Kong
and its commercial and financial position in East Asia.
