Thank you for your letter of 30 April to Derek March telling us of Lord Justice Donaldson's visit in October for the International Arbitration Conference.
2. In the Hong Kong context we cannot think of any special points about arbitration or commercial law to bring to Donaldson's attention, nor indeed any obvious way in which his visit might
serve to promote UK/Hong Kong trade. If on the other hand he mentions to you ways in which he has helped our export effort in other places, it would of course be useful for us to know so that we could have another think.
3. In the China context, arbitration is an interesting question which the Chinese have yet to settle finally. Because they have not, I think I am right in saying, entirely cleared their minds on this subject, I should be surprised if they were represented at the conference unless it were as observers. We perhaps have no need therefore to raise this with Donaldson in preparation for his visit.
