1. Mr John Browne of John Swires telephoned to say that Lord Rhodes was shortly going to Hong Kong and Australia. He had had an invitation from Tan Siu Sin to go to Malaysia. Lord Rhodes was thinking of accepting and appeared keen to involve himself as some kind of peacemaker in the present row over appropriation of British companies.
2. Mr Browne strongly advised Lord Rhodes to keep his head down and not get involved. He does not know whether he succeeded but thought you ought to know.
