I very much appreciated the chance of consulting

you on matters affecting the future of Hong Kong during my recent visit, and would like to thank you for the meeting with Umelco and the hospitality which you arranged on my behalf. As you know, my colleagues and I in the British Government will continue to pay the closest attention to matters affecting Hong Kong.

I found it most useful to be able to brief myself

at first hand in my discussions with you and with other

Unofficial members of the Executive and Legislative

Councils.

I would like to add a special word of thanks on

behalf of my wife, myself and other members of my party

for the superb and generous dinner which Umelco gave us.

For all of us this was a memorable occasion, and will

serve as a vivid reminder of the friendship between the

people of Hong Kong and the United Kingdom.

Suiciutes
