16. These are matters for Hong Kong Government. HMG see no reason
to intervene. Have full confidence in local authorities.
REPLACEMENT FOR KAI TAK AIRPORT
17. Understand airport has to be replaced by 1990 and present
preferred site is north of Lantao Island. No final decision made.
18. (If raised by UMELCO).
Aware of suggestion that airport might
be in China, just north of border.
This would obviously raise very
complex problems. There have been no discussions with the Chinese
on the subject. Do not plan to raise it during visit to Peking.
CASTLE PEAK 'B' POWER STATION
19. Pleased to have had a chance to see progress made by UK firms
at Castle Peak. Delighted at success in winning order for 'B' station.
20.
HMG attach great importance to such trade links between UK and
Hong Kong. Encourage all UK firms to take full advantage of opportunitie
present in Hong Kong market.
