Recruitment of Administrative Officers 1982-83

Administrative Officer recruitment exercises
are now under way in Hong Kong, and through the Hong
Kong Gove.nment Office (for local candidates) and the
Civil Service Commission (for British candidates) in the
United Kingdom. A target of 50 new recruits has been
set, on the advice of the PSC.
Overseas Recruitment

During the report period, 1392 vacancies within
the purview of the Public Service Commission were advertised
locally, and on 31 October 1981, 399 posts were under
recruitment overseas (including 24 posts of Police
Inspector). During the same period, 95 newly appointed
officers (including 23 Police Inspectors) assumed duty
from overseas. A high level of overseas recruitment is
likely to continue in 1982.

During the report period, 438 rank and file
officers were recruited to the Royal Hong Kong Police
Force, against the recruitment target of 500. On 31
October 1981, there were 938 vacancies in the rank and
file establishment of 19,998.
Structure of the Directorate
13.
The Finance Committee has approved the re-creation
of the rank of Administrative Officer Staff Grade B1 at
the D4 level : so far, 6 posts at this level have been
created in Departments, and a proposal to upgrade some posts of Deputy Secretary in the Government Secretariat
from D3 to D4 will be put to the Ross Committee review.
