Purpose
To provide up-to-date information on the present and future availability of land for all purposes in a land production programme.
To prepare a strategy for development of new areas having regard to
(a) the development potential of
these areas;
Progress Made & Present Position
The Special Committee on Land Supply met en 14.8.81 to examine the role of the private sector in land production and agreed to set up a working group with unofficial representation to report on how best to increase private sector participation.
Following LDPC's agreement to creation of a land use/transportation optimi- sation (LUTO) model for the purpose of testing a large number of population distribution options in broad economic terms relative to land development and
(b) Government's policy objectives; transportation implications, meetings
and
(c) resource constraints
have been held with consultants handling sub-regional studies to ensure standardisation of data input.
Next Quarter Targets
SCLS to continue following up recommendations, and areas indentified for further study, in the Report to the Governor. Next meeting, November 1981 to examine temporary uses of Crown Land including squatter areas.
Working Group on Private Sector Participation in Land Production to comment work.
